Claude Code can now basically modify itself. Anthropic just added Mods. You can change prompts, block tool calls, add your own UI or even replace built-in features. And the more interesting part is you can just ask Claude Code to build the mod for you. This feels way more useful than waiting months for Anthropic to add every small feature people want.

Claude Code has developed a plugin system similar to the one I was building on my app for twitter lol funny this is great because it let's us extend it in a controlled way without needing access to the full code of claude. also, claude can probably build these mods/plugins!

A Claude Code mod that reverts its own failed ideas Try an idea, benchmark it, keep the win, roll back the regression, repeat. A community mod runs that loop inside Claude Code. It's an almost 1:1 port of pi-autoresearch and uses the new mods API to reshape the UI. Sessions use the same .auto/log.jsonl format as pi-autoresearch, so you can swap logs between the two tools. The project lists karpathy/autoresearch as its inspiration and says the port also fixes a few small bugs. For a toy demo, copy examples/sort-bench into a git repo and run /autoresearch make sort.js faster. Told a founder friend last night that Claude Code just became its own IDE. Anthropic shipped mods. Tiny TypeScript plugins that rewrite how the agent works, add UI, even replace built-ins like /diff. You can ask Claude to write the mod for you.

Claude Code Mods inherit your machine access. Claude Code TypeScript via /plugin can rewrite more than UI — permissions surface included. ClaudeDevs made install easy. Liability for what a mod can reach still sits with you. If a Claude Code Mods ship asked for the same access as your shell, would you still click /plugin?

Claude Code mods are out (Oct 1). A mod is a small TypeScript function shipped inside a plugin. It hooks Claude Code events. It can rewrite a prompt before the model sees it, block or change a tool call, approve or deny a permission, redact secrets from tool output, or draw its own UI in the terminal or the desktop app. Pieces like /diff are mods now, so you can turn them off or replace them. You can ask Claude Code to write the mod and hot-reload it. Needs 2.1.287 or later. CLI and desktop. Limit: Anthropic says mods are not sandboxed and run with the same access to your machine as Claude Code. The script is not raw Node, but treat it like installing code. Only use sources you trust. On Team and Enterprise, a built-in sec-default mod loads first and stops user mods from overriding permission deny rules.
