Claude Code just added mods — small bits of code that change how it works from the inside. They can rewrite prompts, block risky commands, handle permissions, and even hide your API keys. You can also add custom panes and buttons beside your conversation. Built into the latest version, on by default. One of the best things about the Codex app is App Shots when developing iOS apps. I could just AppShot from the Simulator and quickly start typing into codex. I missed this a lot since moving to Claude. So, today I just built a Temu version of AppShots to work with Claude using the new Claude Mods. Doesn't have the same polish, but works. Its activated by pressing both 'Option' keys on your Mac (Double Command is taken by Codex). One issue is that I was not able to attach the actual screenshot into the prompt box, but only the file path to the Screenshot (I believe this is not possible to do with the current mods API) Claude Mods are awesome!

You burn twenty turns into a Claude Code session, then one bad edit or a wrong Bash call wrecks the path. The chat still has the history, but the code on disk is already somewhere else, and starting over means replaying the whole stack by hand. Time Machine is a Claude Code mod that records the session as a timeline of prompts, tool calls, edits, Bash commands, and turn endings. Pick any point, fork from there, and it restores both the conversation and the code state into a separate Git worktree and branch while the original session stays untouched. When a bad turn should not erase the good path behind it, that fork is how you keep both.

I wrote a Claude Code guard mod that crashes on purpose. The command ran anyway. A hook that throws gets skipped. That's the documented default. One .catch returning a deny makes it fail closed. Of the 10 mods I tested this week, 3 stay. Link below.

anthropic's new claude code mods let you rewrite the agent's brain: typescript hooks that reroute tool calls, redraw the UI, swap in your own features. the catch: no sandboxing. a bad mod reads your env vars and api keys with your full permissions. install like npm.

A mod's approval should not override a deny rule. Claude Code 2.1.289 fixes nested shell deny/ask rules losing precedence to user-installed mods on managed machines. Claude told me it can't use codex's computer use it actually can - you just have to make it spy on codex logs you open codex, run computer use, and tell claude to log every tool that fires (that's how it found the way in) now I can type /codex-cu on and claude drives my mac apps through codex in the background without touching my cursor it also runs on my codex sub too, so no api bill needed I put this mod and another in a github repo so you can grab it and make it your own
